Washington D.C. – House Majority PAC President Mike Smith released the following statement on the Republican Study Committee’s latest budget proposal.

House Majority PAC President Mike Smith:

“By proposing a budget that puts IVF at risk, raises the retirement age, implements a national abortion ban, and cuts funding for law enforcement, House Republicans are writing House Majority PAC’s ads for us. You can be sure that we will use this budget in paid media this fall.”

Vulnerable Republicans Don Bacon, Nick LaLota, Mike Garcia, Brandon Williams, Juan Ciscomani, and David Schweikert are all members of the Republican Study Committee.

RSC Budget Toplines:

Abortion

  • Enacting a complete ban on all abortions and the development and federal approval of any new abortion-related drugs.
  • Making abortions across state lines illegal.
  • Prohibiting the Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs from providing abortion care or reimbursing abortion care. Essentially banning abortion with NO exceptions for service members.
  • Pushing a national abortion ban through the Heartbeat Bill which bans abortions as soon as 6 weeks.
  • Calling for the passage of the Life Begins at Conception Act which would ban IVF and fertility treatments.

Social Security and Medicare

  • Removing price controls on life-saving medications like Insulin.
  • Changing Social Security guidelines so that benefits are not adjusted for inflation or the geographic cost of living.
  • Raising the retirement age to qualify for Social Security.

Families and Children

  • Limiting TANF to only families who are 200% below poverty level.
  • Limiting future funding to the Thrifty Food Plan which allows for purchases of fresh produce and healthier alternatives that SNAP does not.
  • Instituting “reforms” to ensure that only truly “needy” families have access to subsidized school lunch.
  • Barring low income families from receiving SNAP and LIHEAP benefits at a proportionate amount.

Gun Safety

  • Rolling back the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and preventing the Biden Administration’s Pistol Brace Rule.
  • Restricting the ATF from creating a federal gun registry.
  • Defunding red flag laws and removing regulation of gun silencers.

Additionally, the RSC budget outlines an unprecedented rollback of all environmental regulations in addition to reducing EPA funding. Other crucial programs and funding that would be cut includes: MILK agriculture subsidies, COPS grants, federal housing programs, the Dodd-Frank Act, Amtrak, and labor rights.
